Who we are

The Mars Theatre originally opened in May of 1941 as a cinema theatre boasting “cushioned seats.” Owners were John Paul Edge and M.T. Shields, although John Paul Edge became sole owner before long.

Over the years, the theatre has seen many changes, to include a renovation that removed the original balcony in favor of a full second floor, which is currently home to the Gallery at Mars—an art gallery that also features fine artisanal gifts. While originally designed as a cinema theatre, the Mars has been home to several live theatre productions in recent years.

The Mars Theatre is currently leased by the LaFayette Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and used as a downtown event venue. The 72-seat facility is appropriate for a variety of events to include movies, live music, comedy shows and theater productions. Those interested in renting the Mars for their production should contact Wendy Ingram at wingram@lafga.org.
